This week, exploration.
A new week, reader, with reflection on lots of minds. Hello again.
Uncertainty plagues all meaningful pursuits; if we are to do our best work in the face of uncertainty, perhaps we must first hone perspectives that allow us to stay the creative path. So in these notes I reflect on various themes. This week, exploration.
Consider exploration as more than just a change in physical location, consider it an exercise in perspective as well. Sideways Audio Moments is a particularly nice execution of this simple idea, using soundscapes to put one's mind in locations around the world.
A few years back, a smart group called Mudlark produced a short novella designed to unfold as one explores the area around London's Derby Train Station. Done in 2011, with only rudimentary Foursquare tools available, Derby 2061is still a brilliant experience: a narrative built around a fictional future, coming to life as you walk about in present-day.
Kate McLean is a designer working with olfactory perception, and as a part of her work maps out the smellscapes of urban centers. Her beautifully designed maps allow one to experience and explore the world with new entirely new eyes (nostrils).
As part of my own practice in exploring new ways of thinking about the world, each Composure scarf is made and worn to reflect on the stories of people in my life with perspectives worth embodying. Scarves and stories at alwayscomposure.com.
