A Guide to the Fruits of Jamaica ft. Darynee Miller
Composure_Patient Explorers_Darynee Miller-0060.jpg

Darynee Miller is the creator and visual director behind $wanky Savages, a collective of creative people blending style and art in new ways. Her and I were able to catch up on how her ties to Jamaica have shaped her creative vision, inspired by stories of things unique to the island from a recent trip. Moments from her travels in her words below, along with a map I asked her to draw from memory showing places she spends her time between Kingston and Ocho Rios. 🔮🙏

Mustard seeds

The seeds are dope because I found them on a horse riding trail. I actually crashed my horse into a bush lol and when the instructor came to help me steer I saw the plant and grabbed a handful.

Red choker:

As a designer and creator I wanted to make some custom pieces to leave with family so I got this fringe material at a local fabric shop and make chokers!

Ackee fruit board

I love this key holder because it's handmade. The detail of the acrylic ackee plant is amazing. This was a gift from my best friend's Aunt the day before I flew back to the states.

Bob Marley necklace

My love for Bob Marley and all that he stood for is what attracted my eye to this piece.

Rizla papers

Smoking is happening regularly around JA. You can find these rolling papers anywhere for free. Heard to be the best papers in the world!

A Guide To Venice, Los Angeles

A morning in Venice is one part kaleidoscopic geometry and one part oceanside mist. There are new kinds of calm that come with discovering a canalside walk where rowers glide by. And there's a "May Grey" that covers westside LA days in a thin layer of sun-dusted clouds crossing the sea each year, painting each scene in a ghostly warm-blue glow. 🔮🙏

A Guide To Culver City, Los Angeles

Culver City is the result of blending a history steeped in the film industry's first early boom with the youthful vibrance of neighboring Venice & Santa Monica. Here you'll find both the simple peace of slow solitary brass and bright summer produce; modern geometries and rainbow-soaked walls. Just past the historic architecture of City Hall, pockets of light shine through draping ivy on The Platform—LA's newest collection of creative independent shops, where one can leave satisfyingly full on tacos and ice cream crafted in novel culinary combinations.
